The heat is on here in Chapel Hill.  We had a gorgeous Spring, but in the last few days it’s really warmed up.  We’ll be looking to get the kids in the pool this weekend - the Meadowmont Club is one of their favorite places almost anytime.  But when it gets this hot, it’s almost the only place to go!

Meadowmont is a great community in Chapel Hill - and is a special favorite in the Summer months.   This walkable community features upscale stores and restaurants and  a variety of housing options from the $400s to over $1 million, including townhomes, condos and single family luxury properties.  The top-rated Rashkis Elementary school is located just up the hill here and is a great part of living in Meadownmont.

There was an interesting bit of news recently on home values in Chapel Hill.   The price of new homes sold in Orange County late last year jumped nearly $100,000 compared to median prices for the last quarter of 2005. 

In the fourth quarter of 2006, the median value of new construction homes closing here was $422,000 compared to the 2005 numbers which were $330,000.  These numbers highlight the booming luxury home market in Chapel Hill.  Neighborhoods like Silver Creek, Chesley, Meadowmont and Lake Hogan Farms have beautiful new executive residences filled with amenities.

Now that the weather is turning warmer, it’s nice to get in those morning runs and think about the possibility of Spring!  I’ve had a number of clients coming from parts north recently and this is a great time for them to visit Chapel Hill.  Our daffodils are out in full bloom.

Deshera Mack, the Principal of Rashkis Elementary school in the Meadowmont neighborhood was named Piedmont - Triad Regional Principal of the Year.  She will now compete against seven other regional winners for the state title.

Chapel Hill residents are justifiably proud of their school district, as it routinely ranks as the top school district in North Carolina.  Rashkis Elementary is a great school in the Meadowmont neighborhood of Chapel Hill.  Recently the school’s principal, Deshera Mack, was honored by school administrators as the district’s Principal of the Year.

This is the third time she has been honored.   Earlier, she won this award when she was at Seawell Elementary in 1996 and 2000.

This weekend there are some great events in Chapel Hill.  

The Carolina Tar Heels take on Virginia Tech at 12noon Saturday at Kenan Stadium.  

Meadowmont will host Arts at the Meadow on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm.  Live music and entertainment and fine arts and crafts will be featured.  There are also special kids activities at the Meadowmont Club.

Meadowmont is a wonderful neighborhood in Chapel Hill.   There is a great mix of shops and restaurants, luxury homes by some of our top builders, town homes and craftsmen style bungalows.  We love working out at the UNC Wellness Center, going to the pool at the Meadowmont Club and dinner at Lickety Split or Brixx.

The Meadowmont area of Chapel Hill was one of the three top selling neighborhoods in Chapel Hill last year.  Average sales prices were high here at $730,916.
