Arts News in Chapel Hill: The Ackland Museum

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

The Ackland Museum announced their new director recently.  Emily Kass comes to Chapel Hill from the Tampa Museum of Art.  She will lead the fundraising for the Ackland expansion which will actually double the Ackland space to 75,000 square feet.

The expansion plans are amazing.  As the keystone of the University’s planned Arts Common, the Ackland expansion will be part of a remarkable redesign of the Arts at Carolina that started with the renovation of Memorial Hall.  If you have not seen a performance yet at this top venue you need to take a look at the remarkable schedule now and get some tickets.

Playmakers Repertory Theater is also a great option for local arts patrons.

These are just a few more reasons why living in Chapel Hill is such a wonderful experience.  Call Reg Morgan, your Chapel Hill realtor,  for more information about buying or selling your Chapel Hill home.  With over 20 years of experience, he can help you make the most of your next Chapel Hill real estate transaction!

Chapel Hill School Principal gets top honor

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Chapel Hill residents are justifiably proud of their school district, as it routinely ranks as the top school district in North Carolina.  Rashkis Elementary is a great school in the Meadowmont neighborhood of Chapel Hill.  Recently the school’s principal, Deshera Mack, was honored by school administrators as the district’s Principal of the Year.

This is the third time she has been honored.   Earlier, she won this award when she was at Seawell Elementary in 1996 and 2000.

The Chapel Hill Carrboro school district has outstanding teachers and administrators.  It is one of the many reasons why families love to live in Chapel Hill.  If you are thinking of a move to Chapel Hill, call Reg Morgan, your Chapel Hill realtor with over 20 years of experience.

Let’s talk about the many neighborhoods that make up Chapel Hill.   Meadowmont is just one special part of our town.   I’d love to show you other great neighborhoods with extraordinary homes - Southern Village, Lake Hogan Farms, Silver Creek and The Oaks are just some that come to mind.

Tar Heel Football

Pretty grim display at Kenan Stadium this weekend when Carolina lost to the University of South Florida 37-10.  Game time has just been set for the next home game against Wake Forest on Saturday, October 28th.  Kickoff will be at 3:30pm.

Let’s hope the Heels can turn it around against Virginia up in Charlottesville this Thursday night.

Carrboro Real Estate Options

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Carrboro NC is a wonderful, small town next to Chapel Hill and in Orange County.   Formerly a small mill town  - it is now home to a thriving arts community, many art galleries, the Arts Center and a select segment of the great workforce that makes up UNC - Chapel Hill, Duke and the companies of the Research Triangle Park.

Carrboro is part of the top rated Chapel Hill Carrboro school district.   We’re all looking forward to the new Carrboro High School that will open off Smith Level Road in August of 2007.

Carrboro has a number of real estate options — charming, restored mill houses in the center of town, new construction, condos, luxury homes with beautiful wooded lots and established subdivisons with a wonderful neighborhood feel.

Many of these homes are a walk to the charming Carroboro town — the Farmers Market on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, Weaver Street Market or the Open Eye Cafe for some of the best coffee in the Triangle.   If you are looking for great restaurants - try Elmo’s, the Acme Grill or one of our favorites - Akai Hana for delicious and fresh sushi.

Don’t forget to stop in at Fleet Feet Sports and say hello to our friends, Bobby and Rona, great runners and the owners of one of the top running stores in the Triangle.  Fleet Feet organizes running groups and some of the best races in the area.

Call Reg Morgan, your Carrboro realtor to discuss Carrboro real estate options.   Take a look here at some of the current Carrboro MLS listings.

Late Night with Roy

Friday, October 13th, 2006

It may be Friday the 13th - but it’s a going to be a great night in Chapel Hill.  Tar Heel basketball kicks off tonight with it’s annual “Late Night with Roy” celebration.   Doors to the Smith Center open at 6pm for this free, open seating event.  Basketball action begins at 7pm, as both the great Chapel Hill women’s and men’s Tar Heel basketball teams will show what they’ve got for this coming season.   If you haven’t been, you have to try it sometime.  Tonight is the first time the NCAA says the teams can take the floor and practice together - they’ll celebrate with skits, songs and scrimmages.  It’s fun for everyone and this year it is earlier, so a much better night for the kids.

Word has it that Roy Williams may have one of his best teams ever this year.

Seems like we could use some good news, the way football has been going!   Stay tuned tomorrow for the game at Kenan Stadium at noon.  Carolina will take on the University of South Florida.    Hope we see a big win.

Don’t forget Parade of Homes this weekend - I’ll be at Valley Meadow from 1-5pm on Sunday and would love to see you there.  Call or email me for a full schedule of what to see.

And while you are thinking about a win, Call Reg Morgan to discuss your Chapel Hill real estate needs.

Go Heels!
